A negative emotion is any "emotion that is toxic to the body and interferes with its balance and harmonious functioning. Fear, anxiety, anger, bearing a grudge, sadness, hatred or intense dislike, jealousy, envy—all disrupt the energy flow through the body, affect the heart, the immune system, digestion, production of hormones, and so on" (p. 136)
Do you feel it in your body? Is it in a particular location?

I am a very emotional and sensitive person, and I can always feel negativity! It begins as a feeling in the pit of my stomach and eventually consumes all I do. It never leaves my mind. Over time I try and release it's grip on me because it does take a toll on my physical body as well as my mind.

OMG, yes I do feel it!
When I am around negativity, it shows in my stomach: it bloats and creates IBS!
The only thing that helps me is Yoga/Meditation and Laughing! :D

I know it is coming on because I will suddenly lose my authenticity. I won't know what to say and I get really still. Usually if I can I will go to a place by myself and quit my mind for a few minutes and ask myself what is wrong. If it is so bad, I will usually leave where ever I am to go somewhere I can be true to myself. Then I will focus through meditation and journaling why it felt so wrong, and usually figure out where the pain body originated from.

Totally agree Jessia - I think the company a person keeps has a huge impact on how often & how deep a person negativity can get.
Negative people will most likely be talking & hanging around in negative situations. Even after you leave their company or that place, you may notice you still have a residue of that negativity on you. Counting your blessings is an easy way to wash off that negativity much like a shower washes of dirt.
