One of our favorite quotes from Ch. 3 reads, “Whatever you fight, you strengthen and what you resist persists.”
What can you do in the future to stop the voice in your head that wants to be negative?

I think that s the best statement yet. I believe in the power of confrontation, because if you don't step up to what needs change it will continue to linger on and on. When that negative voice creeps into my head, i stand as a witness and watch the character play out through me. I like to do this alone, so I don't affect the ones around me. I think it is healthy to allow it to express itself, because then it can release from you. The only thing is, you have to be in a well enough place to know the difference between, the old ego playing out and your natural self. Once it passes through I like to contemplate all the things in my life I appreciate and am grateful for that usually rejuvenates me.

i am trying to be more aware of the voice in my head, and separate "myself" from it. it's amazing how much that voice speaks! it's uplifting for me to know now that the voice isn't who i am, and it no longer controls me.

I agree with you Monkie! It's nice to know that voice is only my ego and not me. Being aware is the first and most important thing to stopping it. I know for me, I need to ask God to help me do the rest!

What if the voice in your head is your higher self guiding you on your path? How do you know the difference between ego and higher wisdom?

There is no No everything that you focus on you create more of in your life. That is why I have such a issue with reading and watching the news, it is like inviting in negative thoughts into my life.

I recently was fortunate to hear Deepak Choprah (another of Oprahs faves) speak live and one thing he said that truly inspired me was:
Who would I be without that thought?
He was speaking about negative self talk and how we have to consider who we would be without our negative thought patterns. Sometimes it is scary to consider the bravery it will take to stop believing limiting things about our lives, our situations and our selves. I think baby steps works well for this. What are your experieces with this type of thinking?

I resist so much and that is why I feel so stuck. I just need to learn how to let go. That is a journey within itself. It seems that there is always something more to let go of.

Wow, how awesome you got to see Mr. Chopra. I have experience letting go of negative thought patterns and it is unusual after because there is a sense of lose, and not knowing where to go for a brief moment because I lived my whole life around a notion a concept that wasnt even real to begin with. But as long as you are aware and patient, you begin to start feeling what makes you happy and you start filling your life with that, and it is usually the simplest thing. It is so beautiful.
