Why are we always wanting more?

I've definitely had that insatiable hunger - always wanting more, whether it be food, clothing, money, etc. I took Tolle's advice and when I wanted more, I stopped and and got in touch with my inner body. In that moment, I realized that I may WANT more, but I don't NEED it. Those shoes I couldn't stop thinking about became obsolete in my mind, and my need to snack on something fell away.

Is it just mind over matter? What do you think, and did you practice this yourself?

insatiable hunger for more - the story of my life!!! how interesting it is that i've always wondered why i'm always wanting & only temporarily satisfied. i never thought it could be because i was lacking something on a spritual/emotional level. very interesting. great insight.

i feel like "wanting" something can really be destructive. sometimes when i want things I get so focused on it that it becomes unhealthy. i need to try the practice of getting in touch with my inner self when i feel this coming on, because i hate feeling this way!

The need for more. We cant turn off our desire for life, but we can have discipline. As long as we know how to do things in a fashion that permits you to have and wholly relish in what you are doing fully conscious, then the need for more will be abolished, because now you are allowing yourself to fully experience what you are doing, and when you fully experience something you don't need to abuse it. When you are doing something with even a ounce of fear, whatever form that comes in, you block off your senses and you go out of body and become trapped in your head and your being longs to experience whole, so you continue to want more so your being can have that full experience. I think a good practice when you want more, is to sit and just appreciate what you already have.
