Marion Cotillard accepts her award for Best Actress (Photo: WireImage) |
The Oscars never cease to amaze me! The support, love, and appreciation felt at each Academy Awards ceremony always moves me. I still remember tearing up when Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar in 2007 for Best Supporting Actress in Dreamgirls, and my heart swelled to see the happiness and gratitude of Marion Cotillard when she won Best Actress in a Leading Role at this year’s show. I love to see everyone who works so hard to entertain us day in and day out awarded and thanked for all they do and for their incredible skill.
Oscar First-Timers
There was a plethora of first-time winners and nominees at this year’s show. Some of which included Ellen Page, the incredibly talented 21 year old nominated for Best Actress for the film Juno, Marrion Cotillard who actually won the same category for her role in the film La Vie En Rose, and musicians Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova who won Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly” in Once, a little indie film that took them all the way to the Academy Awards.
Oscar Host, Jon Stewart
Jon Stewart once again hosted the 2008 Oscars and kept us laughing, as always. Following a long, drawn out writer’s strike, Stewart kept the awards lighthearted and fun – exactly what Hollywood needed to get back on track.

2008 Oscar Red Carpet Fashion
I also love to see the high fashion that accompanies each awards show. The 2008 Oscars were no exception, and glamour abound as the celebrities made their way into the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA.
Black is always a common color on the red carpet, and while many, such as Ellen Page, Jennifer Garner, and Hilary Swank showed up in their dark numbers, it seemed that red was the most popular color of the evening. The celebs proved that any age can wear this crimson color with ease; veteran Helen Mirren showed up in a lovely red satin number, as did newcomer (and youngster) Miley Cyrus. Another popular color for the evening was navy, which seems to be the new black of the season. Here are some of our nominees for best dressed at the 80th Annual Academy Awards:
I’m Seeing Red (from Love, not Anger)!
Miley Cyrus | Katherine Heigl | Anne Hathaway |

She may be young, but this girl knows fashion. Miley looked mature and appropriate in her crimson Valentino chiffon gown, paired with Neil Lane jewels and a Mary Norton clutch. | Katherine Heigl is always our Hollywood glamour girl. She hits the mark again in this red silk georgette Escada gown, with Ryan Ryan jewels and Jimmy Choo heels and clutch. | Anne Hathway looked stunning in her draped red Marchesa gown which she paired with Harry Winston diamonds. |
Celebrities are Back in Black
Ellen Page | Jennifer Garner | Kristin Chenoweth |

Ellen Page has a style all her own, and we loved her vintage presence on this year’s red carpet. Ellen wore a vintage black Jean Louis Scherrer dress and a 19th-century natural pearl and rock crystal rondelle Fred Leighton chain. | Has Jennifer ever looked more stunning? We loved her in this black silk taffeta Oscar de la Renta fishtail gown and major Van Cleef & Arpels diamonds with a Roger Vivier clutch. | The adorable Kristin Chenoweth looked glamorous in her black and rose Armani Privé gown and Fred Leighton diamond hair clips. |
Navy Blue Beauties
Amy Ryan | Penelope Cruz | Cate Blanchett |

Amy Ryan wore a simple, but beautiful one-shouldered navy Calvin Klein gown, paired with H. Stern diamond earrings and bracelet. | Penelope Cruz truly glowed in her Chanel Haute Couture navy feather embroidered gown, designed by Karl Lagerfeld just for her. She accessorized her gown with a Roger Vivier clutch and Chopard diamonds. | She may be ready to deliver, but Cate Blanchett stills looks perfect! Cate wore a navy satin Dries Van Noten gown, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch. |
Other red carpet stunners included Jessica Alba in a deep-purple feathered Marchesa gown, Cameron Diaz in a pink Dior by John Galliano bustier gown, Marion Cotillard in a white mermaid-inspired Jean Paul Gaultier gown, and Jennifer Hudson who looked lovely in a white beaded Roberto Cavalli gown.
