Soy Products Are Great Tasting and Good for Your Health!
Do you like tofu, soy nuts, soy shakes or edamame? Soy products taste great and are a great source of protein and nutrients. Read on to learn about how soy is beneficial to your every day health.
According to Allegra Burton, MPH, RD and Registered Dietitian for SOYJOY Nutrition bars, to get the recommended amount of soy to benefit your health, you can incorporate up to three or four servings of soy into your diet daily. Examples include: 1 cup of soymilk, 3 to 4 ounces of tofu, a soy burger, a cup of soy pasta, one or two soy bars such as SOYJOY (which is made of whole soy), or ¼ cup of soy nuts or edamame.
“According to the FDA, eating 25 grams of soy protein a day as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease,” Allegra said. Soy products decrease bad cholesterol and also have benefits for bone health. Soy isoflavones resemble synthetic estrogens like tamoxifen and ipriflavone, which have been shown to be helpful in preventing or reducing bone loss. Soy contains magnesium and many soy foods contain a high percentage of calcium, as it is often added as a coagulating agent. All this adds up to good news for your bones. Allegra suggests, “When possible, look for foods that are made from whole soy, rather than highly processed soy ingredients which are often stripped of many of these beneficial nutrients during processing.” If you’ve haven’t tried these delicious soy products, put them on your priority list:
