Eyeliner Is Back - DivaVillage Shows you how to Create the Perfect Flick

Backstage at London Fashion Week all that you heard was “Think Amy Winehouse,” referring to her hair, make-up and clothes. Her biggest influence has been on eye make-up. Heavy eyeliner “a la Amy” was seen in nearly every show. In honor of the queen of eyeliner, I will talk you through the perfect flick.

Eyeliner gives eyes sexy definition. From the sixties flick to that glam punk tick, eyeliner is this season’s make-up detail to master. For precision, Pat McGrath, make-up artist for Prada, Versace and Louis Vuitton, says, “use a pencil to sketch the line first.” Tidy up with Revlon Make-up Eraser then “define the shape by tracing over with liquid liner, such as Max Factor’s High Definition.”

The Different Eye Liner Styles

Razor Shape As seen at Prada, Louis Vuitton and Dior The Look: “The eyes had a strong line at Prada, simple but strange-looking,” says McGrath. While at Louis Vuitton “just a tick of eyeliner to look cool” was used, she said. Classic feline eyes need very little other make-up, but try false lashes at the outer corner to exaggerate the look. Freestyle Eyeliner As seen at Christopher Kane and Versace The Look: Eyeliner is used in calligraphic flourishes to illustrate the face. Broken lines and dots make the eyes appear bigger. Try Shiseido Accentuating Cream Liner. Worn by: Eva Longoria and Penelope Cruz

Glam Punk Eyeliner As seen at Sportmax and Diesel The Look: Eyeliner is applied carelessly to look as though it has been slept in. Take this worn-in look from day to night by applying dark metallic shadow above the flick. Keep building it up until you get the required intensity. Try Fresh Satin Liner. Worn by: Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen

My personal favorite is Bobbi Brown’s Gel Liner. It is between a pencil and a liquid. I love it so much I have hung up my liquid liner for good.
