How to do Red Carpet Poses so you never take a Bad Picture!
Most people do not actually like having their picture taken. They believe that they are not photogenic, and always dash off at any photo opportunity. But most of us can remember a time when we saw a picture of ourselves and wished we had looked better; after all, even models have bad days. If you’re always hiding in photos and looking unhappy about it being taken, then how do you ever expect to get a good picture of yourself? Maybe if you smiled at any photo-op, you would start believing yourself to be photogenic!
The good news is that anyone can learn how to take a better picture, if they just learn the tricks of the trade!
Being Photogenic: Your Face
If you know you are going to an event where pictures will be taken, show up picture-ready with clean hair and flawless make-up. To reduce facial shine, try Lancôme Photogenic Foundation (oil-free formula) for great coverage and a matte finish. Never try new makeup for the first time on the day of your pictures, unless a professional is hired to apply it. For indoor pictures, you may need to apply your eye shadow, blush and lipstick a little heavier than you're accustomed to in order to get a fantastic photo.
If you're teeth are getting a little bland, have your dentist whiten them up -- or plan ahead and use a home teeth-whitening kit for a dazzling smile.
Being Photogenic: Your Body
Most people have a “good side” and a “bad side.” Maybe it's a scar on your face or the way your hair falls. When you learn which side looks better, you can angle yourself so that your best side is prominent. If you're posing for a casual group photo, be the first up there so you can choose your spot.
Accentuate your best features and pose your body in such a way to hide your flaws. Practice good posture; sit and stand up straight. Present yourself with pride and it will be evident in the pictures. How you perceive yourself is how others will see you.
Just Relax!
The more poise you have, the more likely you are to look natural and show your best smile. The most attractive pictures are a result of someone who is comfortable around the camera and knows exactly what they want. This can be learned.
These are some pointers to creating the perfect red carpet pose, practice in the mirror to perfect the techniques:
Jelly Arms: DON'T barricade your torso with crossed arms that flatten out across your body. It only makes your arms look wider! DO move your arms away from your body to make them look thinner and flab free!
Slouching: DON'T give your breasts a chance to sag and your belly to roll over by slouching! DO put your shoulders back, extend your spine and slightly pull in your tummy for perfect posture.
Minimize Accessories: DON'T look like you're being weighed down by oversized bags and too much stuff! DO hand over or put down distracting items and make yourself the center of attention.
Leaner Legs: DON'T cross your legs unless they're long and super lean, or you risk looking disproportionately wide at the hips. DO slightly turn your body and bend one knee for a leaner-looking physique.
Terrible Twosome: DON'T tilt your head into someone else's. DON'T strain your body or neck because you're not sure if you fit into a photo. It looks terribly unnatural! DO move closer to your photo mate while maintaining your posture and personal space.
Turkey Neck: DON'T let someone take your photo from below if you have double-chin issues. DON'T squish your neck causing rolls and multiples! DO keep your chin slightly raised and forward (this is a small movement!) to help make you look more like a Russian ballerina (this is also possible while looking down).
