Fight Fatigue!

Use these simple exercises to wake yourself up and fight feeling burnt out!

 

Sometimes it seems that no matter how much sleep we get, we still feel exhausted the next day.  We bother ourselves with questions like “Am I eating something wrong?” “Am I not getting a deep sleep?”  Well, maybe it’s just that your body isn’t getting the exercise and circulation it needs to keep you awake!  According to Body & Brain Magazine, fatigue is defined as “a persistent lack of physical or mental energy and motivation” and it is more common in our hectic and stress-filled lifestyles.  Rejuvenate your body with these exercises:

 

 

Take a Bow

 

If you are sitting for long periods of time during the day, you need to stimulate your spine and nervous system.  Doing this exercise will stretch your inner thighs, chest, abdomen and waist.

1. Lock your fingers behind your neck. Inhale. With feet stationary, turn your body to the left.

2. Bend from the waist and bring your head toward your left knee.  Hold the position for a few seconds.

3. Move your head and trunk toward your right knee. Hold for a few seconds.

4. Slowly return to a standing position as you exhale. Repeat the exercise twice, alternating from right to left sides.

 

Let’s Swing

 

This fun exercise will greatly increase your circulation as your swing your arms.

1. Place your fee parallel and shoulder-width apart, relax your knees.

2. Extend one arm forward (with relaxed elbow), and the other behind you.

3. Start swinging!

4. Slowly bounce while moving your head toward the arm behind you.

5. Repeat the motion in the opposite direction.

This is perfect for relieving stress and tension in your neck and shoulders!

1. Rapidly rub your hands to warm them.

2. Massage the back of your neck.

3. Slowly rotate your neck in a circular motion to the right and to the left. Do it clockwise and then counterclockwise.

4. Massage your trapezius muscles and then your arms.

 

 

The last suggestion that Body & Brain gives is to awaken your brain!  Take some time each day to get in touch with your senses.  Remove your shoes and walk around on cold tile or one the grass.  Close your eyes and focus on the feel and smells surrounding you.  This simple practice your awaken your brain and give you some alone time each day to relax.  Start noticing how awake you can be after doing these simple exercises and fight that annoying fatigue!
