Fabulous Updos!

Get A Glamorous Updo For Homecoming or the Holidays!

homecoming hair, hairdo, updo, curly hair, curls

With Homecoming on the rise, we’ve put together the best tips, looks, and products to get the hairdo of your dreams!  No more crying in the mirror after a job gone wrong, use our tips and you’ll have a fabulous updo that will make you the best "tressed!"

Get the Do’s and Don’ts for this year’s Homecoming hairdos from Tim Rogers For Charles Worthington London:

  • Do soften a chignon or bun by loosening some wisps of hair around the face; otherwise the overall effect can appear a bit harsh.
  • Don’t try and put up newly washed hair as it is just too slippery and floppy to handle. Don’t wash hair the day of.
  • Do carry a handbag-size can of hairspray and some bobby-pins with you at all times to rescue your updo in an emergency.
  • Do use an invisible hairnet around a bun to keep the hair in place, especially if your hair is layered or has straggly ends.
  • Don’t get an attack of ‘wedding ringlets’. If your style is simple, don’t let others bully you into a look you don’t feel comfortable with just because they perceive it as being more glamorous.

Do It Yourself:

Modern Chignon:  This look works well for anyone who has natural waves or curls.

Salon Hair Care

1. Saturate wet hair with Nexxus Curl Energee and use a blow-dryer to dry hair while lifting to enhance volume and scrunching to accentuate curl.

2. Measure off a front section by tracing your pinky fingers from the outer edges of the brows to the top of the head and clip (we’ll come back to this).

3. Pull the right half of hair straight back and pin with two bobby pins crossed in an X – do the same with the left.

4. Begin wrapping up sections of hair under the X and pin.  Continue until all hair is pinned at the nape of neck in a loose modern chignon

5. Unclip the front section and spray with Nexxus Comb Thru.  Smooth hair back and pin in a small loop above the chignon.

Short Hair With Headband:  This look works well for anyone with layered hair.  Accessories like headbands work well to dress up short hair.

1. Work Nexxus VersaStyler through dry hair.

2. Use a 1 ½” round brush and wrap ends around the brush while blow drying to create curls.  Dry in varying directions for a tousled effect.

3. Finish drying on the cool setting to loosen locks and add shine. Add a hair accessory, like a headband.

4. Finish styling with a pea-sized drop of Nexxus Designing Texxtur worked through hands and applied with flat palms to set hair.

Updos

This classic look has been one of the longest lasting trends for social parties or events.  Hollywood stars like Jessica Simpson and Lindsay Lohan often wear updos for Award Shows and red carpet events.  This season shows us soft wavy styles.  Nothing pulled tight or severe. At the salon, stylists are using hot rollers, curling irons and rollers to achieve these looks.  Updos shout glam and red carpet!

Half Up and Half Down

If an updo is too stiff or uncomfortable for you, try half up, half down. This look is great for girls who have very thick hair; for them, wearing hair all up is uncomfortable and hard to keep looking flawless all night. By setting the hair on rollers then using the curling iron, you will get the hold needed and the iron will form those great wavy curls.

Mid Length and Shorter

You should think waves and curls, but not big hair. To keep this look fresh, it’s about waves, not ringlets. Ringlets that are too tight look old-fashioned and Victorian, so keep your short curls loose and natural. Finger comb and tousle your tresses when slightly wet for a true romantic look. Face-framing layers will help make a basic hairstyle more versatile and add much needed movement. If you have bangs, they should be pushed to the side and smooth. Try a rhinestone hairpin or barrette in the bangs to take this look to a new level.

Side Pony and Buns

Do what the celebrities do. Pull your hair back into a side ponytail or side bun. Gather your hair at the nape of your neck and secure with an elastic band, allowing a ponytail to fall over your shoulder into a mod look.  Add a colorful scarf or wear a bun that's visible from the side. Add a headband or scarf.
