WHY SODA IS BAD FOR YOU
See Why You Should Cut Back On Drinking Soda
| || |
|The unofficial drink of the United States is soda. With meals, in-between meals as a snack, in giant “Big Gulp” cups, out of boredom and even with breakfast, gallons and gallons of what is essentially liquid candy are consumed every day in our country. |
Soda is not only void of any nutritional value whatsoever (hello, empty calories!), but it also actually harms your body in a myriad of ways. Soda is cheap and available almost everywhere, and many of us just drink it because it is there and because we are used to doing so, like a bad habit.
WHY SODA IS BAD FOR YOU
Soda is not your friend, and cutting back on the bubbly beverage can significantly improve your health right now and for the years to come:
Soda makes you fat. One can of soda contains 120-190 calories, and new studies have just shown that people who drink one or more cans of soda each day are almost a third more likely to be obese. Obesity can lead to heaps of diseases like diabetes and can contribute to an early death.
Cut Out Sugary Drinks and Lose Weight
Soda is particularly bad for young women. Teenage girls who consume high amounts of carbonated beverage may later in life find that their bones are brittle and break very easily. This is caused by the phosphoric acid, which actually leaches calcium out of your bones – it can also clean rust off car bumpers. Children who drink lots of soda also have more broken bones.

Soda makes you flatulent, which is a fancy word for burping and farting. While some young women seem to have embraced some sort of bratty, crude-cool “I do what I want” trend, let’s face it: burping and farting makes you less attractive to guys. And to everyone else in the world.
Soda destroys your tooth enamel. The high acidity of the beverage takes away enamel that you can never get back, and the sugar in soda brings about tooth decay and cavities. Unless you love the dentist’s drill and brown teeth, cut back on the pop.
Soda is the brainless choice. Many of us just drink soda because it is there. Use your mind to select healthier drink options. You are not a sheep.
Diet soda is just as bad- and maybe worse- than regular soda. While diet soda lacks the sugar and therefore the calories of regular soda, the artificial sweeteners used to replace the sugar could be far worse for you than the real stuff. Much is unknown about artificial sweeteners, but what we do know is very bad. For example, Saccharin is derived from petroleum and is known to cause bladder cancer in rats, and aspartame breaks down inside your body into methanol, a type of alcohol that Egyptians used to embalm the dead.
Soda can be addictive. The caffeine in many colas and sodas is a known stimulant, and overconsumption can cause stress, insomnia and addiction.
Soda is sugar water; one can packs a bigger serving of sugar than most ancient humans consumed in their entire lives. Such a heaping serving of sweets is a jolt to your body system and can throw it completely off-balance, leading to mood swings and a weakened immune system.
Drink Alkaline Water Instead
To kick the can, you will have to change your mind. Quit thinking of soda as a beverage choice at every meal. Instead, think of it as a special treat, like a brownie or slice of cake. Cutting back on soda and drinking it only now and then will actually make you enjoy it even more.
