HOW TO THROW A GIRL'S NIGHT IN
Rejuvenate Your Life With Laughter And Your Friendships With Fun!
 | | The economy has left many ladies these days with flat wallets and plenty of free time: the perfect condition to throw a girls’ night in! | |
When you were a little girl, you probably begged and pleaded for your mom or dad to let you throw a girls’ night in, known back then as a slumber party. With friends, fun, music, movies, games and hi-jinks, these were the nights that cemented friendships and allowed girls the space to be free, for one night anyway.
While you probably don’t want to put anyone’s bra in the freezer or toothpaste on the face of the first person to fall asleep, inviting some girlfriends over to have fun old-school style is an inexpensive way to celebrate the simple pleasures in life, like ice cream, silly movies and boys. Whether you crash on the floor in a mound of sleeping bags or call it quits at midnight, a few hours spent with girlfriends is a surefire way to rejuvenate your life with laughter and your friendships with fun.
HOW TO THROW A GIRL'S NIGHT IN
Girls Night In Tip #1: First, send out invitations via email or snail mail, setting a date far enough ahead so that people have time to plan. Make it a special occasion rather than a last-minute get-together. Remind your friends to bring pajamas or other comfy clothes, as well as snacks and drinks if you want to keep costs down.

Girls Night In Tip #2: Invite friends that you know will be lively and fun at a party, but also invite those who seem a little down lately- they need a night of friendship even more. Try to mix old and new friends, so different people can get to know each other.

Girls Night In Tip #3: Music is important for keeping the energy flowing early in the party while everyone is arriving and wandering around. Choose classic favorites like Madonna’s Greatest Hits or create a new playlist from your music collection just for the party. Add as many funny songs as you can think of like Baby Got Back, Ice Ice Baby and Funky Cold Medina.

Girls Night In Tip #4: Snacks are a necessity for a night in. Serve easy-to-prepare and easy-to-eat foods, and ask partygoers to bring a bag of chips or a liter of soda- no one will mind. Try to have a variety of munchies: low-cal treats for dieters, high-cal snacks for indulgers, creative options for vegetarians, and don’t forget the popcorn!

Girls Night In Tip #5: Drinks are also essential; craft a special cocktail or purple martini just for your party, or go lowbrow with a vodka punch. Be sure to have water and sodas on hand for non-drinkers, and if people are staying all night, coffee for the morning is a must!

Girls Night In Tip #6: Games can be fun if your party is the right mood. Have some popular options like Cranium or Scattergories around to choose from, but don’t force people to play if they aren’t in the mood. It can also be fun to bring back Truth or Dare, I Never, or other similar games whose intention is to get to know your friends even better.

Girls Night In Tip #7: Get creative and have markers, paints or crayons on hand in case inspiration strikes. Have everyone create a sign, or paper hat, or CD cover; anything that encourages guests to express themselves as uniquely as possible!

Girls Night In Tip #8: Treat each other to a few home spa adventures. Have a collection of items for manicures and pedicures, as well as some inexpensive facial masks from the drug store. Get together lotions and makeup to try on yourself and each other, and have some fun with that sky-blue eye shadow and purple lip liner just like you did when you were little.

Girls Night In Tip #9: Have movies ready to put on when things settle down. Romantic comedies are an obvious choice, and the funnier the better! Or you can choose classic movies from the 80’s that you love but haven’t seen in forever, and horror movies can go over well too. The best? Add this all together and choose a horror movie that scared the pants off you as a child- it will be hilarious now!

Girls Night In Tip #10: If people stay the night, have a few extra blankets and pillows on hand and plan for a simple breakfast in the morning. Or, plan to pop down to the corner coffeeshop for a chai tea and a pastry; this makes clean up easy for you and is a polite way to encourage guests to make their way home.
