How To Guide on Wearing Tie Dye

You may be seeing that a lot of celebrities and clothing stores have been showcasing tie dye on their clothing, and some of it looks like a hippie from the 70’s and some of it looks…well, good! It’s surprising how tie dye can actually look pretty when paired with the right clothing. Some tie dye actually looks painterly, like from a John Pollack painting rather than something Shaggy from Scooby Doo wears. TIE DYE HOW TO: Choose the right colors.

When looking for the appropriate tie dye apparel, it is best to look for pieces that blend complimentary colors together, so that is looks classy and not too childish. You should also work with colors that flatter your shape and your complexion. Darker shades will always add a slimming effect to any shape, and the same goes for tie dye.

TIE DYE HOW TO: Tie dye in all shapes and sizes.

You don’t have to just get a tie dye shirt to make this look work for you. There are many other types of clothing and accessories that can come in tie dye and look really great on anyone. Scarves are a fun way to dress up any outfit, and if you have one with a tie dye pattern, it will look pretty, not bohemian, a term we are used to hearing when thinking of tie dye. There are cute tie dye purses that would look great with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt or even a comfortable summer dress. You can also find airy tie dye dresses that are fun and romantic along with shirts with only the collars that are tie dye, which offers more of a classy look to tie dye.

TIE DYE HOW TO: Keep it fun yet sophisticated.

For a sophisticated look when wearing tie dye, pair black trouser pants with a tie dye scarf and blouse or wear dress pants with a tie dye blouse. You can also wear a tie dye piece with white pants and a blazer for a fun night event or a tie dye shirts with a black pencil skirt for work. There is tie-dye denim you could always wear; however unless you’re Gwen Stefani or Posh Spice, you may want to stay away from that look. It really isn’t very flattering on anyone, and you may find that you look more like you are trying way too hard.

TIE DYE HOW TO: Glam it up!

To look like you just walked out of a fashion magazine, wear tie-dye with some glam pieces, such as classy jewelry or fancy pants. And of course, you can always pair your tie-dye with destroyed denim and fringe if you do want to try for more of a boho appeal. A quick and very simple look to put together is to wear a tie dye maxi dress or a tunic and cinch your waist with either a fancy belt or scarf; depending on your style.
