FINDING THE RIGHT FRAGRANCE
Learn How to Find the Right Fragrance that Works just for you!
|Many women have a signature fragrance, a certain scent they wear daily that helps define their beauty and fashion sense as well as their personality. If you’ve struggled to find perfume products that represent your wit, charm and grace sufficiently, fear not, as I have helpful tips to help you on your way to fragrance nirvana. |
FINDING THE RIGHT FRAGRANCE TIP #1
First off, always apply perfume and wear it for at least 6 hours before purchasing it, as it has to have time to react with your body chemistry before you’ll know how it really smells on you. A certain scent may be heavenly on your best friend or sister but on you, well, it might not smell the same. Like makeup, you have to wear perfume and see if it is right for you before you fork over any of your hard earned cash.
FINDING THE RIGHT FRAGRANCE TIP #2
These days many beauty and style magazines have fragrance strips in the perfume ads so you can easily tell if a new fragrance might spark your interest. I recommend going to the counter and applying the actual fragrance to your skin before purchasing it. Make good use of the fragrance tabs at the counter; they are there for you to spray scents on and take with you to smell again later. Some people don’t like spraying multiple perfumes on to their body at once; it confuses them. Usually your sales person will supply coffee beans for you to sniff in between fragrances. The smell of the coffee beans clears your nose so you are able to truly smell the next fragrance choice. As you test different scents you will quickly find out if you like sweet, oriental, floral or woody fragrances.
FINDING THE RIGHT FRAGRANCE TIP #3
I prefer to create my own fragrances by wearing a touch of two different perfumes each day. I use a little of one behind one of my knees and the other on the back of my neck or on my décolleté. Once you try this you will never go back to being a one trick pony. As you experiment you’ll learn which scents play well off one another ~ hey, it’s fun to be your very own fragrance muse! Remember, potent places to apply perfume are on the backs of your knees, inside your elbows and at the back of your neck.
FINDING THE RIGHT FRAGRANCE TIP #4
If enjoy wearing scented body lotions, take a cue from them when looking for a new perfume. If you like pear scented lotion look for fragrances with dominate fruit notes. Their ‘notes’ often describe perfumes – do you wonder exactly what this means? Every fragrance is made up of many different aromas and these various scents are called "notes." Top notes are the lightest notes and are what you smell immediately when you apply scent. They last only a few minutes. Middle notes drift up and affect the fragrance about 15 minutes after application. They last up to an hour or sometimes longer. Bottom notes are the heaviest and most lingering ingredients, and usually last for several hours.
FINDING THE RIGHT FRAGRANCE TIP #5
|And always heed my Mother’s words of wisdom: "Perfume is the reward of closeness." This means only those who hug you or stand very close to you should smell your chosen fragrance. Don’t make the mistake of dousing yourself in scent. It is really offensive! You NEVER want anyone to smell your perfume when you walk into a room. Be classy and cool when it comes to fragrance. Use your common “scents”. || |
