Recently many celebs have rocked the messy curls look. Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Biel, and Kate Hudson have also been seen on the red carpet sporting their versions. But no one has rocked the messy curls updo hairstyle like Amy Adams- until you! If your hair is long and naturally wavy, this is a very easy look for you to accomplish. However, if your hair is short or straight, you may need to create these chaotic curls with products.

Prepare your hair for this Amy Adams hairstyle by cleansing and moisturizing your hair with a shampoo and conditioner specially designed to promote curls and volume, like HALO by Graham Webb Curl Shampoo and Conditioner.

Rinse thoroughly and towel dry hair.

Apply a lightweight styling product, like TIGI Bed Head Foxy Curls Extreme Curl Mousse, to encourage voluminous natural waves.

Immediately after the application of your styling product, do some serious scrunching. Yes, I said scrunching!  Scrunch your hair franticly with your hands to achieve those messy curls.

Now, blow dry your hair with an ionic 1875 watt dryer and a large circular diffuser attachment, like Bed Head Active Ionic Hair Dryer (with diffuser attachment), while still continuing the scrunching process.  After hair is completely dry, run your fingers gently through the curls to loosen and define them before beginning to pin up.

To begin your updo, gather your whole head of messy curls onto the top of your head and secure hair from the back with a large claw clip, such as Soft ’N’ Style Large Claw Clip.  If any pieces of hair fall from the clip, secure the pieces back onto your head with a bobby pin.

Pull out a few curls from the sides of your head to lie next to the face and use a tourmaline curling iron with a 1 ½ inch barrel, such as Bed Head Tourmaline Nano-Ceramic Iron, to redefine some pieces of hair that did not curl properly. Spray your entire head with light hold hairspray, such as Paul Mitchell Worked Up Working Spray.  And you’re done!

Although longer hair works best for this updo hairstyle, with the right products and tools, shorter hair can certainly pull off this style as well.
