Energy Medicine Helps Heal the Body, Mind and Soul
Energy medicine is the healing practice of working with and teaching people to work with the body’s own energy in ways which promote and empower health and vitality in the ‘whole self’.
ENERGY MEDICINE
Derived from Eastern cultures, energy medicine and alternative medicine are now making their way into our Western medical society and helping to establish an integrative type of medicine. These integrative approaches are having tremendous positive affects in regards to the patient-doctor relationship. Treating the whole person and focusing as much as possible on prevention rather than just pharmaceutically treating the problem and/or symptoms has helped patients develop a higher level of trust with their doctors.
INTEGRATING ENERGY MEDICINE
According to the American Hospital Association, the percentage of U.S. hospitals that offer complementary therapies has more than doubled in less than a decade, from 8.6% in 1998 to almost 20% in 2004. Another 24% of hospitals said they planned to add complementary therapies in the future. Still, alternative medicine and energy medicine are not covered by insurance and must be paid out of pocket. This is slowly changing as doctors are recommending things like nutritional counseling, chiropractic treatments, and biofeedback more often and some insurance companies will reimburse the patients initial out of pocket costs.
HOW DOES ENERGY MEDICINE WORK?
The approach to energy medicine is activating and restoring the energy in the mind, body and soul-- in other words focusing on your energy mentally, physically and spiritually. Energy medicine helps to heal the body by activating its natural healing energies as well as restoring energies that have been overworked by stress in the body. Energy medicine identifies energy as a profound living force that affects your entire well-being and focuses on the belief that existing energy already inside you is your medicine. When used effectively and consistently, energy medicine helps to release blocked emotions and stale energy in the body that, among other things, can create muscle tension and headaches.
Principles of Energy Medicine, published in 2008 by David Feinstein PH.D., and Donna Eden beautifully and concisely explains what the true principles of energy medicine are so as to enable us all to take action for our whole body well-being. David Feinstein PH.D. is a clinical psychologist, author of Innersource’s Conscious Living Programs and the executive director of the non-profit Energy Medicine Institute. Donna Eden is one of the world’s most effective energy healers, teaching classes and treating clients all over the world about the powers and principles of energy medicine.
Some principles of energy medicine:
“Energies—both electromagnetic energies and more subtle energies—form the dynamic infrastructure of the physical body.”
“The health of those energies–in terms of flow, balance, and harmony–is reflected in the health of the body.”
“Conversely, when the body is not healthy, corresponding disturbances in its energies can be identified and treated.”
“To overcome illness and maintain vibrant health, the body needs its energies to: Move and have space to continue to move—energies may become blocked due to toxins, muscular or other constriction, prolonged stress, or interference from other energies.
Maintain a balance with other energies—the energies may lose their natural balance due to prolonged stress or other conditions that keep specific energy systems in a survival mode.”
“Flow, balance, and harmony can be non-invasively restored and maintained within an energy system by:
tapping, massaging, pinching, twisting, or connecting specific energy points on the skin
tracing or swirling the hand over the skin along specific energy pathways
exercises or postures designed for specific energetic effects
focused use of the mind to move specific energies
surrounding an area with healing energies (one person’s energies impacts another’s)"
