Our relationship to food can open us up to insight about our lives. The impact that food choices can have on health can be significant, especially due to the sheer quantity of food that is eaten throughout the lifetime, to be 60,000 to 100,000 pounds. Rather than experience a deeper level of understanding about the foods the body and soul need, people resort to short-term, quick-fix tools like diets. Instead, what we are craving lie before us, and within the eating experience is the seed of our enlightenment, if we are open to receiving it. By envisioning foods as dancing molecules of energy that have power and potential to uncover our highest selves, we can make food choices to support life-giving thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions. Lives can be revolutionized completely by altering your view of food! And the beauty of this miracle is that it can begin now…with your next bite of food, but also throughout your entire food experience - through cultivation, distribution, acquisition, preparation, presentation, mastication, digestion, assimilation, and excretion of foods.
Food not only imparts its own energy, it is responsive to external attitudes, thoughts, words, and actions, regardless of whether from plant or animal, or quick or slow vibration. In other words, we add to the vibration of foods through our thoughts, intentionally bumping up or eroding the healing transformation potential that is part of the food. By putting energy into food, we interact much more deeply with it during eating. If we put positive energy into it and have good thoughts while eating, the food transmits an exponential increase of positive energy in the eating process. On the other hand, if we are hurried, angry, or upset, these feelings transmit through foods into the body, down to the cellular level.
Nutritionists are taught in school that proteins and carbohydrates both create the same energy currency within the body. For every gram of protein or carbohydrate eaten, 4 kilocalories of energy are available to use. It is now known that these basic nutrients, despite the fact that they are similar in calories, have a different vibration or electrical potential. Taking this a step deeper, into the atomic level, the vibrating energetic charged particles of food interact to a significant degree electrically within the fluid matrix inside the body. These vibrations ripple through the body, creating a surge of electrical currents to enhance or deplete the energy state of the cells.
The vibration of food interacts with our inherent vibration, and an exchange of energy occurs. When we feel stuck in a way of thinking or move slowly through the day, eating beef, which carries slower vibrations, adds to our feelings of lethargy. However, when we eat a spicy black bean dish, with spices and beans carrying a higher resonance of energy than that of beef, we stay alert and energetic for hours after eating. Another aspect to the vibration of food is that of color. Unfortunately, most Americans are eating what I like to call the “brown, yellow, and white foods diet”. We are left with lackluster eating, devoid of the rich, flavorful plant compounds that send high vibrations to our energy body. Each compound of color, whether the anthocyanidins in grapes or the red lycopene in tomatoes, has a specific frequency and function in the body. If we omit a color from the rainbow on our plate, we are missing the physical and spiritual vibration. “Rainbowed eating” is one of the keys to enhancing the whole of our selves.
The way to enlightened eating is to be fully present when we are in its presence. The act of eating is sacred because it can draw us into the cosmic unification we have with all of nature. The gratitude we express for a plant or animal giving up their energy for the sake of our energy is interwoven with our evolution as conscious beings. Each bite connects us to the energetic lineage of that food – the field it was grown in, the star, moon, and sun rays it collected, the farmer(s) that cultivated it, those who picked it and transported it until it finally made its way into your fingertips.
Indeed, magnifying the eating experience and becoming aware of the potential of foods can take us into a realm of healing beyond our imagination.
