PAMPER YOURSELF ON A BUDGET

Enjoy the Best Things in Life Without Leaving a Dent in Your Wallet!

Everyone is cutting back on luxuries these days, and most of us have had to give something up, whether it’s a weekly housekeeper, a romantic get-away, or that daily skinny latté.  But just because you’re living on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t find ways to pamper yourself without overspending.  After all, everyone needs a little pampering from time to time, and looking forward to a few special treats is important to help keep your spirits up during this stressful time.

SOOTHE AWAY TENSION AND STRESS

TAKE A NICE WARM BATH.

It may sound clichéd, but a warm bath scented with your favorite bath oil or bubble bath is a great way to pamper yourself and treat your skin to some extra moisture at the same time.   Try EO Rose Geranium & Citrus Bath Salts from www.eoproducts.com, an all natural, relaxing bath salt. Set the mood by lighting candles and playing your favorite music while you bathe.  When you get out, dry yourself lightly and then coat your body with a soothing, hydrating moisturizer or body oil while you’re still damp.  Then slip into your comfiest pajamas or loungewear.  You’ll feel the tension melt away.

MASSAGES.

If you have a significant other, ask him to give you a massage.  He’ll probably be happy to oblige, especially if you agree to return the favor.  And if your tub allows, you can always make that a bubble bath for two!

A LITTLE MANI PEDI.

If you’ve got the right stuff, give yourself a manicure, pedicure, or both.  Remove old polish, file and buff, and then use base coat, polish, and topcoat to create a glamorous look.  Use a cotton swab dipped in polish remover to clean up little mistakes along the edges of your nails.  No, it’s not the same as the salon, but the more you practice, the better you’ll get.

LEARN TO “MINI SPLURGE”

CRUISE THE MALL.

While it isn’t a good time to load up on designer shoes or expensive handbags, being on a budget doesn’t mean you have to avoid the mall completely.   Just don’t go to stores where you’ll be tempted to go wild with the credit card.

GO TO THE BOOKSTORE.

Browse in bookstores and lose yourself in the books and magazines.  Decide you’re going to buy one paperback or magazine you know you’ll really enjoy. Allow yourself one espresso drink or cookie to feel truly indulged.  As long as you don’t do this every day, it’s a great way to pamper yourself.

WATCH A MOVIE.

Take yourself to the movies!  Bring along a water bottle in your purse, along with your favorite treat, such as dark chocolate.  If you can take the time, most movie theaters still have bargain matinees during the day, and you can pick whatever movie you’re in the mood for without consulting anyone else.  Or grab a girlfriend and see the latest romantic comedy.  An alternative to going out is to declare movie night at home, and rent the flicks you meant to see but didn’t, and make your own popcorn to set the mood.  Cuddle up with a blanket and enjoy!

FIND THE FREEBIES

VISIT YOUR LIBRARY.

When was the last time you visited your public library?  Most carry the latest novels and other bestsellers as well as copies of your favorite periodicals.  And you can also rent DVDs and videos, all for free.

GET A MAKEOVER.

Visit your favorite department store’s cosmetics department, and have a makeover.  While you may one to buy one of the products suggested, such as a lipstick or mascara, you are not obligated to make a purchase, and you’ll get some fun new ways to update your look.

TAKE A WALK.

Finally, grab a buddy and talk a walk.  Not only is walking great for your heart and an excellent way to lose or maintain your weight, chatting with a friend (or spouse, son, or daughter!) will make the time zip by.  And if you already have a gym membership, try a new class such as Pilates or Spinning.  You probably won’t have to pay extra, and you’ll walk out feeling just great.
