These Simple Lifestyle Changes will help you Beat the Bloat
Feeling bloated again? Several factors contribute to that uncomfortable, sometimes painful feeling that occurs all too often, especially for women. Many factors can lead to bloating, most of which are related to diet and lifestyle. Here are some common triggers and tips on how to beat the bloat:
1. ALCOHOL CAUSES BLOATING
Consuming alcohol and carbonated beverages will lead to stomach irritation and accumulation of excess air in your stomach. Instead, have a cup of tea (a natural diuretic) in lieu of soda. Try to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day.
2. LIMIT SALT AND FATTY FOODS
Avoid processed and fried foods, which contain excess salt and fat. Try to make meals from scratch so that you can limit the amount of salt in your diet and avoid ingredients that cause indigestion. Spicy foods can be hard on the stomach, so limit your intake if you have a sensitive stomach. Eat small meals during the day, so that you feel less full and bloated.
3. STRESS CAUSES BLOATING
Are you feeling overworked or that you’re always in a hurry? Believe it or not, stressing yourself out is another factor that can lead to bloating. Set aside some time for yourself each day and relax! Slowing down and getting more sleep will help relieve stress. Enjoy your meals and eat slowly, since eating too quickly results in the swallowing of air, thus leaving you feeling bloated and overfed. Avoid chewing gum as a nervous activity since this can also cause you to swallow air.
4. BLOATING IS A SYMPTOM OF PMS
Is it that time of the month again? For most women, bloating is a common PMS symptom. In addition to the above-mentioned tips, you can also try taking vitamins and supplements to ease bloating. Take calcium (1000mg/day) or vitamin B-6 (no more than 100 mg/day). If bloating is persistent, see a doctor.
5. LACK OF ACTIVITY CAUSES BLOATING
Exercising improves circulation, so keep on the move! Yoga is a great exercise to calm your nerves and rejuvenate your body. Practicing yoga and other deep-breathing exercises can improve digestion and relieve bloating. Staying active and doing other activities such as walking and jogging will also prevent bloating and keep you looking and feeling great!
