Honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month & Shop for the Cure!
BREAST CANCER PREVENTION IS PROTECTION
It’s never too soon to learn about breast cancer, and most importantly, to learn about the warning signs. Being female is the most important risk factor for breast cancer; although men can develop this disease, it is about 100 times more common among women. Except for skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, but it can be successfully treated. Screening tests can find cancer early, when it’s most treatable. Get to know your breasts early with breast self-exams, that way you can easily detect when something is out of the ordinary. Then have a clinical breast exam at least every 3 years starting at age 20, and every year starting at 40. For more information visit the ABC’s of Breast Cancer Guide from the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
HOW TO HONOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and there are so many ways for you to help honor and fight for a cure. Many shops and items are available that donate proceeds to different Breast Cancer foundations, and what’s easier (or more fun!) than doing a little shopping for a great cause? Take a look at some of our favorite Breast Cancer Awareness sites and items:
Bloomingdales: Make a difference with style. The purchase of any item credited in Bloomingdale’s Little Pink Boutique will go toward a minimum donation of $75,000 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. One of our favorites is the C&C California Women's Tank in a beautiful pink ombre. Shop in stores or online.
New Balance: New Balance is committed to a $1 million donation from sales of the New Balance 2008 Lace Up for the Cure® collection to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The New Balance WR768KM sneakers are the official shoes of the Komen race and other items in the “Lace Up for the Cure” line include shoes, apparel, and accessories.
Coach: A donation of $100 from the sale of each Lexington watch sold between September 15th and December 31st will be made to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation as well as 20% of the proceeds from each of the other special BCA items from Coach.
HollyBeth: HollyBeth Anderson is proud to give to a cause that is near and dear to her heart. 5% of all sales of HollyBeth’s Live Rosemary & Peppermint Candle and Laugh Citris Candle will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure to aid in the fight against breast cancer.
Nordstrom & Estée Lauder: The Estee Lauder Lip Trio includes some of Elizabeth Hurley's favorite pink lip glosses: High Gloss in Pink (limited-edition shade), Rose and Pearl, plus a zippered travel case. Best of all, your purchase will help Estée Lauder donate $500,000 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, dedicated to preventing breast cancer and finding a cure in our lifetime.
Saks Fifth Avenue: The purchase of the Key To The Cure T-Shirt, with exclusive Karl Lagerfeld design on the front and back, lets you show your support with style. Over $35 of the purchase price goes to the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Women's Cancer Research Fund.
eDressMe: This October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, eDressMe.com will be donating 20% of proceeds from the sale of select designer items to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation. Designer items include looks by Tara Jarmon, Shoshanna, Nanette Lepore, eDressMe Private Collection and many more!
OPI & AveYou: OPI’s second exclusive Nail Lacquer created to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the new Pink of Hearts shade is a full-of-life light pink, a color of hope, optimism, and positivism. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in 2008 OPI will make a donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® in the U.S. OPI will also make a $5,000 donation to Rethink Breast Cancer in Canada.
FelineFido: It doesn'’t have to be October to promote Breast Cancer Awareness, so let your pooch or feline proudly wear his/her pink ribbon collar and matching leash all year round. For those manly dogs, FelineFido offer unisex versions of their support ribbon collars and leads in black and chocolate brown. 5% of the net proceeds from each pink ribbon collar or leash purchase are donated to Susan G. Komen For the Cure.
