Learn How to Wear Plaid: A Seasonless Trend For Every Woman!
A lot of the times when we think of plaid we think of cowboy boots or schoolgirl uniforms. However, plaid can be very stylish when it is worn the appropriate way. Plaid does not have to be the ultimate symbol of a cowgirl; it can actually be funky and may we even say, sexy? Best of all, plaid is perfect for any shape or size! It’s so versatile, there’s just no reason not to wear plaid!
Short and Fitted or Long and Loose?
Plaid can look chic any way you want to wear it. When shopping for a plaid shirt, think about what look you want to convey. Do you want a more clean and tailored look? If this is the case, a form fitted plaid blouse paired with jeans will keep your look more sophisticated. For a more casual look, instead of a short fitted plaid shirt, go with the oversized, longer button up version.
Plaid shirts come in a variety of colors and different fabrics and even the print can vary from smaller “squares” to ones that are more spread apart. The look can get a little overwhelming if the colors are too bright. If you want to play it down, opt for a plaid shirt in subtle muted or neutral colors, like browns, tans, creams, blues and grays.
You can take a tunic plaid top and wear it with a pair of cute leggings to create a fun and sweet look with plaid. Wear a scarf or a belt around your waist and add some gold accessories, such as bold bracelets and necklaces. You can also wear a plaid dress, which like the blouse, should be form fitting to your body as well. Wear the dress casual with flats or make it a little sexier with boots or heels.
Sometimes when we see plaid in the normal colors, such as red and black or blue and black, we right away think that we should be going in the woods and start chopping down tress. Instead of looking like a lumberjack or a country bumpkin, stick to different types of colors such as brighter and bolder. Buy a plaid shirt in pink and blue plaid or a dress that has purple and green on it.
Plaid can be very fun and it doesn’t have to make you look “too country”! You can find the right plaid that fits your personality and you can always start off small when putting plaid into your wardrobe. So what are you waiting for? Starting working plaid into your outfit. You may be surprised as to how much you really like it!
