The 80’s seem to be here to stay, and you can especially see that with the style of jeans. While we have seen dark jeans take over for a while now, these days the jeans have been getting a little lighter and a little more destroyed like they were in the 80’s and early 90’s. While this look is a hot trend for this season, there are certain ways that you should and should not wear these types of jeans. Light and distressed jeans can provide a fun and stylish look to a casual and even a dressy outfit.
HOW TO WEAR LIGHT DISTRESSED JEANS: The Loose Fit
The light wash and distressed jeans that we are seeing today seem to have a lot of movement within the legs. These jeans are a baggy fit that is similar to the “boyfriend” cut jean and are usually not fitted tightly to the legs. This look is not suppose to be like the familiar and trendy skinny jean, but instead it is suppose to be more grunge and funky.
While the look is baggier, there are some light and distressed jeans that are more fitted, but the buyers beware. This style is fun, but is should not be worn if you are trying to flatter your figure by hiding any bulges or problem areas. If you are tall and lean, you may be able to wear these fitted light jeans the best; however, if you are shorter or have a heavier bottom, you should stick with the looser fit.
HOW TO WEAR LIGHT DISTRESSED JEANS: Make it Casual
These jeans are great for a casual look because they are comfortable and relaxed. To make this look work, pair your distressed jeans with an airy blouse, flats and lots of bangles. You can even take this look down another notch, by wearing a rocker t-shirt and flip flops and roll your jeans up so they come just a little below your knee.
For more of a dressier look, wear your light, distressed jeans with a white tank top, tucked in and paired with a black or navy blazer. Throw on some fun gold earrings and some high heels and you are ready for a night out with the girls or an exciting first date.
Distressed jeans are a fun look but there should be certain things to remember when pulling this look off. These 80’s inspired jeans are usually a little baggier than what we have been used to, in order to leave room for some leg movement. If you have a heavier bottom half and want to wear a tighter jean, it is best to try to look for a shade or two darker. Look for a pair of jeans that is darker but distressed to keep the grunge look, and help make your legs look longer. Light jeans usually look best when paired with a light colored top, such as neutral and pastel colors, so when you are looking for a shirt to wear, go for a lighter shade.
