Once afraid of brightly colored eyeliner and mascara, I am now the world’s biggest advocate of color, color, and more color when it comes to eye makeup! A girlfriend of mine recently commented on my blue eyeliner and how it brought out my brown eyes; she herself had tried bright colors in the past, but had not found anything that suited her hazel eyes in colored eyeliner or mascara. I’m sure many of you would agree with my friend that it feels extremely risky to wear such striking colors on your eyes. However, you must know that every eye color can benefit from colored mascara and eyeliners if only you’d give it a try!
Celebrities love to draw attention to their eyes on the red carpet, especially pop superstar (...and trendy diva) Rihanna. Rihanna is often seen in brightly colored eye shadows, mascaras, and liners, and here she rocks frosty blue mascara. According to InStyle Magazine, Rihanna’s makeup artist chose this unusual mascara color for her because, "It's a subtle splash of color without overdoing it. And it opens up the eye and makes the whites look even whiter."
Blue and purple mascaras are popping up everywhere this season; from the runways to the sidewalks. So take a risk and open up your eyes with some of these blue and purple mascaras for spring and summer!

Joey New York – Mini Super Duper Lash Tips in Plum
Joey recommends applying this mascara to only the tips of your lashes. A somewhat subdued plum shade, this formula is wet on contact but dries to a nice finish that lasts and lasts. This purple mascara enhances eye color as it gives eyes a brighter and subtly seductive look. |
To apply this trend in the daytime, try pairing it with subtle taupe, light pink, or even an extremely light blue eye shadow and your favorite eye liner. This is completely school or office appropriate with a light blush or bronzer and light lips. For evening, pull out all the stops with various versions of the smoky eye complete with black mascara topped with blue or purple mascara. Colored eye makeup can be low key or all out fab, it just depends on the time of day and the occasion. It’s truly up to each individual diva as to what she is comfortable with and enjoys wearing, but we encourage you to try some color and see what you think!
