Oprah, Tolle, & A New Earth, Chapter 2
In Chapter 1, you began to explore how to wake up and be present in each moment. Tolle wrote about the flower and how it relates to enlightenment. Have you begun to see the transformation in yourself as a flower yet? Tell Us.
Each week, be sure and pick your two favorite quotes from the chapter we are exploring. The quotes are like the petals of a flower you have grown during the class that can assist in your ongoing awakening.
Oprah & Tolle Discuss Chapter 2: Ego
Last Monday (March 10, 2008), Oprah and Eckhart Tolle used their discussion and the workbook to help you unravel your true identity from your ego's attachments.
Here is one of our favorite quotes from Chapter 2:
"Make it a habit to feel the inner body as often as you can...It is your essence identity. Body awareness not only anchors you in the present moment, it is a doorway out of the prison that is the ego. It also strengthens the immune system and the body's ability to heal itself."
What have you been doing to take care of your mind, body, and soul? Tell Us.
Discussion of the Chapter 2 Workbook:
1. Have you ever had the experience of standing before the open refrigerator, not really hungry, but looking for something anyway? Many people try to fill up their life with food, drink, drugs or other addictive behavior. The “need for more” can turn into insatiable hunger. The next time you find yourself reaching for something you think you want, get in touch with your inner body—your “essence identity”—and see what happens to your “need for more.”
2. Eckhart Tolle also discussed how we frequently place our identity in the things we want and need. Things themselves are not bad, but our identification with those things keeps us unsatisfied and unhappy.
How much worth do you put in “things?” Tell Us.
Do you find yourself comparing the things you own to the things that others have? Does it make you feel inferior or resentful? Tell Us.
Do you ever casually mention things you have to show off or gain superiority? Tell Us.
In looking deep within ourselves and answering these questions, Tolle truly makes us begin to exam and unravel our egos. It’s only by becoming aware of our egos and their destructive nature that we can learn to change.
