Common Mistakes Women Make When Choosing a Haircut
We’ve all done it at one time or another – we’ve chosen a trendy haircut that looked cute and then regretted it the moment we walked out of the hair salon. It may have been a celebrity hairstyle from the latest magazine, or it could have been a re-creation of an out of date high school favorite.
Hair Catastrophe #1: Trendy Hairstyles
The first hair catastrophe that women often do unto themselves is getting a trendy haircut. The style could be one that you saw in the latest issue of Vogue, or maybe your hair stylist suggested trying a new ‘do that she learned at a cutting class. Either way, you knew that this trendy haircut was a mistake before you walked out the salon door. In the future, if you want a trendy haircut, ask your stylist how you can get a similar look without going to the extreme.
We're not sure if Scarlett Johansson truly thought through sporting this mullet style back in 2003.
Hair Catastrophe #2: Unnatural Hair Color
Another hair catastrophe women often experience is with hair color. Off-the-wall colors like pink, green, blue, and purple don't normally look too classy. Stick to more natural looking colors to make the most of what you’ve got. Trying to color your own hair will also lead to a hair color catastrophe because you just never know what you’re going to get. Leave hair coloring to the professionals for best results.
Rachel McAdams demonstrates this point perfectly with her pink streaks on the red carpet.
Hair Catastrophe #3: Cutting It Off
One last, but common hair catastrophe is the “I’m sick of my hair, so I’m cutting it all off” haircut. Chopping off your long locks is never a good decision when it’s decided so quickly. Take time to think of why you want to cut your hair. If it’s because you are looking for a new style, then take a few days to find a variety of short styles that appeal to you. If you want to try a short style, take baby steps to get there. Cut a few inches off in your first appointment and then a few weeks later you can decide if you want to cut the rest off or not. One great reason to chop your locks is to donate your hair to Locks of Love. Locks of Love is an organization that takes your donated hair and makes wigs for children who are going through chemotherapy.
Mena Suvari and Britney Spears are two such celebs that decided chopping it all off (and we mean ALL) was actually a good idea.
