Christina Aguilera's New Album "Back To Basics" Christina Aguilera has changed faces several times throughout her career. She started out as one of the adorable kids on “The Mickey Mouse Club,” and then re-appeared with her first album “Christina Aguilera” in 1999 with an innocent, adorable look. She transitioned into long dark, streaked hair and heavy makeup for her follow-up album “Stripped” in 2002. After channeling Marilyn Monroe for a while, Aguilera is now looking like a sophisticated woman from the 20’s in tune with her “Back to Basics” album released August 15th.
Inspired by music from the '20s, '30s, and '40s, Christina Aguilera pays tribute to the music she grew up listening to on her new album, “Back to Basics.” In this third stu dio album, Christina invokes such soul, jazz, and blues trailblazers as Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday and Etta James. With help from collaborators like Linda Perry (Stripped) and DJ Premiere (Jay Z, Notorious B.I.G.), Aguilera brings back that old-time sound with vintage microphones and gritty sound effects, and also adds modern dance grooves and hip-hop elements to the mix. The “Back to Basics” album is a double disk that comes with a video on the making of "The Right Man" and a digital booklet. Disc 1 is a mixture of hip-hop beats and retro R&B that channels old school sounds of B.B. King and Gladys Knight. Disc 2 seems to be more pop oriented with “Candyman,” an Andrews Sister-style swing song, and “The Right Man,” which is one of many songs inspired by Aguilera’s new husband Jordan Bratman. The first single from the album is "Ain't No Other Man", which climbed into the top ten at #6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 after its release (it leaked onto radio and the internet on June 1, causing Sony BMG to release the song as a single several days early).
